KNO-228/308-13.06/0.00 Intersection Improvements

2LMN was tasked with providing design services for the ODOT safety-funded project within the Village of Gambier in Knox County, Ohio. The project converted the existing intersection at SR 229, SR 308, and CR 259 (Laymon Road) into a single-lane modern roundabout. Due to a fatality at the intersection, ODOT fast-tracked the project to move from design to construction as quickly as possible. 2LMN’s services included roadway, drainage, right-of-way, traffic control, maintenance of traffic, and lighting. The project faced several constraints, including its proximity to the scenic Kokosing River, substantial grade differences between SR 229 and SR 308, and the existing bridge along Laymon Road, which was not modified or realigned for the project. Significant stakeholder coordination, involving local government agencies as well as Kenyon College, contributed to the project’s unique characteristics, including utility relocation and aesthetic modifications.
